The Product Planning, Development, and Marketing Group includes all the functional areas that work together to develop instructional materials that meet current pedagogical and market needs for PreK:12. Content is developed for a wide range of media formats, including interactive digital media as well as print. Colleagues within PDM have varying expertise including the following: subject:matter expertise across all academic subject areas, design, art and photo management, production management, quality assurance, content engineering, and permissions and licensing.
HMH is seeking an Associate Learning Architect (ALA) for Grades 6:12 Math. Under direct supervision, the ALA is responsible for ensuring that assigned components (print, digital, and customized) meet market needs and are delivered on time and on budget. The responsibilities of this position require a supervised level of independent and collaborative work in delivering assigned products. Success entails working collaboratively with the PDM teams and other departments within the organization. The ALA applies process, content, and technical knowledge to assigned projects, may participate in project planning, and continues to increase personal knowledge of process, technical skills, and subject:area content.
Primary Responsibilites
:Supports Lead LAs or Senior LAs on assigned projects to design content for all learning products that meet specified learning and user requirements.
:Under direct supervision, edits manuscript according to project guidelines, project schedules, budgets, and divisional standards of quality and accuracy; may write or revise portions of manuscripts, scripts, and storyboards; proofreads copy and makes necessary corrections. Develops HOTS bookmaps, writes photo specs, completes project tracking documents, and has ownership of other tools as needed.
:Under direct supervision, prepares art specifications and checks all stages of art and proof for assigned projects, including assisting in preparing materials for Design; participates in the creation and checking of content for tech products; effectively utilizes tech tools in the publishing process to facilitate development efficiency and enhance product quality
:Participates in project planning for assigned projects and makes suggestions that address customer needs; completes competitive and standards analyses, research, literature searches, fact checking, and customer correspondence
:Works cooperatively and effectively with other members of cross:functional project teams, other Learning Architects, Design Architects, Production Managers, and Content Shared Services providers.
Knowledge and Experience
:Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education or relevant discipline
:Subject matter expertise in Grades 6:12 Math
:Classroom teaching experience or curriculum development experience
:3+ years of educational publishing experience preferred
:3+ year of editorial and/or learning design experience preferred
:Strong design/aesthetic sensibilities
Skills and Abilities
:Strong conceptual skills, a critical eye for detail, and the ability to translate complex concepts into visual representations
:Self:motivation, ability to work with and communicate effectively with a variety of technical and creative individuals
:Excellent writing and proofreading skills, with attention to detail
